Concierge Chronicles Pop Up: "Take It Easy"

Hey Royals! Yet another week is flying by. I hope you are being productive, but getting enough rest.

And that's what I want to touch on briefly; getting enough rest. I know that life can be busy. You squeeze all you can into a day with the hopes of resting that evening or some time in the near future. Your list of five things becomes ten with the unexpected stuff that pops up and before you know it, the day has gotten away from you so you have to add some of it to the next day and so on until the weekend arrives, the time you planned on Monday would be your time to rest, and you still have unfinished tasks that have to be done and you end up trying to fulfill them over the weekend. And what happens next? The alarm clock scares you out of your sleep and it's Monday morning again.

Can anyone relate to that or is it just me? Unfortunately that was my life for many years because I was horrible at planning mixed with a little procrastination and self-diagnosed A.D.D. so my work weeks and weekends melded together smh.

There have been studies on how much sleep an individual needs in order to function and also be healthy. *WebMD states that "Most adults need 7 to 9 hours, although some people may need as few as 6 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep each day". I was so far from all of those statistical times. I have functioned on 4-6 hours of sleep daily for years. No alarms set, I would just wake up and find it difficult to go back to sleep most likely because my mind never sleeps. I have written some of my favorite poems in the middle of the night when I should have been asleep. I have come up with some of my best ideas at that time as well. I have tried to write them down and go back to sleep with no success so I just stay up.

Now, I know that is not ideal for my health and I have found some ways to improve on that. But I have found that my biggest struggle is just resting. Not going to sleep per se, but just doing nothing for a period of time. As I stated, my mind does not know how to slow down; I always feel like I should be doing something.

Since I have been on the road it has gotten a little better. I have been able to shut down a bit because I am not at home and all of those things that kept me up at night are not around me. But I found myself working more. Taking more rides or taking on more virtual assistant jobs. It wasn't until I decided to take a few weeks off that I realized just how tired I was. I purposely left my laptop in the trunk of my car, set my phone to do not disturb at a certain time of the day and researched a show to binge watch. I vowed to not go anywhere, do chores or anything for the entire first week I was home. I found that I survived! So, I tried it for the second week and it really felt good. The third week I finished all of my packing to get back on the road and chilled for the remainder of the week.

I was amazed at how energized I was. I drove to Virginia to work in record time with energy to spare, I was able to go to sleep at a reasonable time every night while I was there and I was more focused. I hadn't felt that good in a while and it was all from retraining myself to stop. Reassuring myself that I did not have to do everything in one day and that taking a break for a nap or going to bed a few hours earlier was not a bad thing.

I implore each of you to purposely get the rest you need. As I touched on in the video, chasing the bag is honorable, but if you don't take care of yourself you won't be around to enjoy t once you catch it.

Resting is a big part of self care and you know I am big on that. Take care of yourself so your loved ones won't have to.

Leave a comment with how you wind down at the end of the day. I am always up for new ideas and ways to care for myself. And after you do that...take a nap! LOL!

Until next time,

Peace and blessings

Here are a few videos I use to get to sleep:
