Get Your Mind Right! How Important is Mindset?

Hey Royals! I want to change direction for a minute. Yes, this is a blog about my concierge business and how I can assist you, about self-care and total wellness. But, at the end of the day, I am an entrepreneur and I have to focus on my mindset.


Being an entrepreneur can be difficult at times. The late nights, sometime endless tasks that you have to take care of that comes with running a business. And with all that, having the right mindset is extremely important. If your mindset is not right and your thoughts positive and focused, when things get tough and you become exhausted, you may want to give up. I have definitely been there.

I remember when I first started my business, and I only had a couple clients. Trying to make ends meet when they didn't need services, I thought about throwing in the towel and start looking for a job. But I knew that was not my purpose or what I wanted to do. So, I changed my mind. Oh, it wasn't as simple as it sounds, but it was doable. I had to figure out what I was focusing on that was making it so hard to attract clients at that time.



So, I grabbed a piece of paper and made a pros and cons list. I thought about my "why", the reason I started my business and how my life would be if I did or didn't start and stick with my dream. I thought about how I felt as an employee and how I didn't feel fulfilled day after day. I wrote down how my dream was my purpose and what my life would look like having not pursued it. As I wrote those reasons down, my mind began to change. It gave me the wherewithal to keep going. I intentionally shifted my mindset to the pros that were on my list; the reasons I took the step to start my business, the people that I loved and them being one of the main reasons I started my business as well as the people I help with my concierge service. Those reasons helped with resetting my mindset so to speak.

Mindset...everything must be processed through the mind.

What does that statement mean to you? I think of my thought process. How I process the positive or negative thoughts that came to my mind as I filled out the pros and cons list.

Every day, all day, we process thoughts. Some are so fleeting they don't really affect anything, but others are so deep that they can even change your attitude.

Have you ever started your day in a positive mindset, happy, ready to take on the world and one negative thought pops in your head and your mood, attitude, and drive tank. You may get angry just from entertaining that one negative thought and your creativity, momentum and spirits in general are ruined. What do you do in that moment? How do you turn it all around? As for me, I try to retrain my thoughts to something opposite of that thought. I don't know about you all, but I talk to myself. Yep, I'm guilty; but I must admit that some of my best conversations and motivation are the conversations and pep talks I have with myself. I ask myself where that thought may have come from. What was I doing at that moment that could have brought that thought to mind. Usually I can pinpoint the origin, but even if I can't, I will tell myself that the thought was not true, it was intended to stop me and I replace it with a positive affirmation or thought of something, anything positive.

Our minds are the processing center for our ideas. When a great idea or concept crosses your mind and you decide to run with it, your mind is where you process all of the data pertaining to it. I remember when the thought of starting the Concierge Queen first came to my mind. I was sitting in traffic after a long workday. I had what seemed like a million things to do after work and the traffic was putting me behind. I sat there in frustration thinking about what needed to be done and the fact that I had to do it all. Trust me, many negative thoughts went through my mind while sitting there, but the one positive thought of how I knew there were others that probably felt the exact same way and how I could help them. Now I did not think on how to set the business up or anything right then, but the positive thoughts first, helped me destress some and they planted a seed. When the idea came to mind again, I acted on them and the Concierge Queen and a technique to maintain a positive, focused mindset were birthed.


Me: My mind, thoughts, and opinions

Your mind is the hub for your creativity, ideas, and success. Have you ever heard the saying, "thoughts become things"? I believe it. Every successful business or endeavor begins with an idea; a thought. So, your mindset can make or break you and your business.

What I think about myself is very important as well. The opinions of others are not as important as the opinions I have of myself. Having the wrong thoughts about yourself can cause depression and low self-esteem which can bring everything you want or try to do to a screeching halt. You will doubt your abilities which will ultimately make you give up on your goals and dreams. I speak from experience. I have been there.



When I had the idea to start my concierge service, I had as many thoughts of fear and doubt as I did ideas of how I would run my business and make it a success. When I decided to reign in those negative thoughts my business began to grow, and I became more resilient to stick to my purpose and pursuing my dream even when it seemed that nothing was happening. The more thoughts of success and my ability to gain that success, the more my business grew.

What am I thinking about on a daily basis determines the success of my day. When I am working and something crosses my mind that is not positive or productive, I stop and retrain my thoughts back to where they need to be. Allowing my mind to run off course so to speak with the random, negative thoughts, can sabotage my productivity and accomplishment of the goals I have set for myself and my business.

Insecurities: How I think others see me and how I see my flaws

The thoughts I have of myself in the form of insecurities can hinder my individual growth. I will not dwell on insecurities since I spoke of them previously. Insecurities birth negative opinions of yourself. So, all I have to say about insecurities is that they are a skewed view of yourself that you must find a way to turn around so that you can learn to love yourself and obtain any and all of your dreams. They are what you think others think of you. You must remember that you were created uniquely for a purpose. Even if you feel your purpose is too big for you to achieve because of your insecurities, you have to constantly remind yourself that you have everything in you that is needed to fulfill that purpose. You have to love yourself in the midst of the insecurities you may feel. You have to embrace and begin to love your flaws. Be FLAWSOME! You are enough!


Negativities: Lies we tell ourselves

We all have things about ourselves that we do not like and want to change. Be it our weight or the color of our hair. We see the flaws and in extreme conditions, allow those misconceptions to overtake our thought process and we start to tell ourselves lies. Having or developing a positive mindset and opinion of yourself can change everything for you. There are days that I look in the mirror and just shake my head because I don't like what I'm seeing. Now at that moment, I have two choices, allow the distorted image I see in the mirror to dictate my emotions and thoughts. It is a choice I have to make. Do I hinder my progress and success by believing the lies I am telling myself? Or do I change my mindset and thoughts and move forward, proceed, and ignore those lying thoughts? I don't know about you, but I choose the latter.


Doubt: Fearful, negative thoughts

This is a very harmful thought process. Doubt is basically fear. Your fears and the fears others impose on you. What is fear? Fear is false evidence appearing real. Now doesn't that sound like the lies we tell ourselves. Doubting your ability to succeed in whatever you endeavor is a powerfully negative mindset. This one thought process can ruin every attempt to succeed. You must change this mindset in order to keep going. Zero doubt is what you will need to focus on when you have those fearful thoughts. If you feel fear, speak to that fear with the knowledge that you are equipped with everything you need to succeed. Think on the things you have already accomplished and remind yourself that the dream was given to you for a purpose.


Sensitive Topics: Secrets, memories, and hidden fears

Many of us have areas of our lives that we don't want anyone to know. We suppress them and these are the things we have learned to not think on. No matter what the "secret" it is, it is still a part of your thoughts. Good or bad, those sensitive areas of your life can be a hindrance if you allow them to. You may have set out on the journey to fulfill your purpose and dreams and because you have not dealt with the things that are sensitive areas of your life, you are not moving as quickly as you would like. My advice is to work on building yourself up in those sensitive areas. When you think of those hindering, negative thoughts, quickly find something positive to do or think about. Meditate, exercise, take a walk and work through those sensitive topics.

Excuses: Thoughts that hinder your progress

"You can make excuses and you can make money, but you can't do both". That is one of the truest statements I've heard ever. Excuses lead you to procrastination. Procrastination leads to a halt of progression which in turn will kill your dreams and purpose. I am going to be transparent and tell you that I tend to be a procrastinator. Like writing these blogs, I have a schedule set up to write, edit and publish them. I may put off writing and then I am off schedule for editing and ultimately publishing them. I am learning that procrastination makes everything more difficult and stressful.

I have gotten better, but I know that I could be further along in my business, purpose and life had I not fallen to procrastination. It stems from fear, doubt and the lies I told myself. Lies like, "I don't know if I can do this", "what if no one wants or needs my service" and "I PLAN to do that (whatever it is)". I would think those hindering thoughts and stop myself from doing the things that I needed to be doing. I had to consciously turn those thoughts around and make myself do whatever needed to be done immediately; before I could talk or think myself out of it. Comment the one thing you tend to procrastinate on?


Time: One of our greatest assets...use it wisely

Time is one of our most valuable assets. It is the basis of my business. I assist individuals and businesses with reclaiming their time; allowing them to do what they love with those they love or to scale their business.

But when it comes to mindset and moving through this life with positivity, we don't have time to entertain the negative thoughts, feelings, or opinions when we are building a business or any other endeavor. We have to learn to not waste time on any negative thoughts; it is a waste. A productive way to spend time is to find ways to clear your mind of any thoughts and feelings that come up. There are many ways; find what works for you.


What can you do?

There are many things that you can do to retrain negative thoughts and feelings. Different things work for different people, so I implore you to research different methods and find the one(s) that work for you. As for me, when my mind is moving like a locomotive and my thoughts are all over the place, I stop whatever I'm doing and meditate or walk away from what I am doing and go outside to get some fresh air. Meditation aids in clearing my mind and helping me to focus. Walking away and getting fresh air gives me a boost of energy and I give my mind a rest from focusing on anything. I don't have to think, I just enjoy watching nature and breathing in fresh air.


If you don't have a method, I implore you to find one. Something calming, that can give your mind a break so to speak. And whatever method works for you, use it because it is so very important. Taking control of our thoughts, will change our opinions of ourselves, lessen our insecurities, fight against the negativities that tend to creep up, banish doubts and fears, will give you the ammunition to deal with the sensitive topics in your life, erase the excuses and give you back the time to fulfill your purpose. Take the time to work on these things; our purpose, mental health and dreams are depending on it.


I have this on my mirror where I can see it every day and speak them to myself:


Me...do me for a change. Make me happy. Include me in my schedule

Imagine...imagination and vision. Imagine your possibilities

Never give up on you...positive, personal reinforcements and affirmations

Do it...reassure yourself that you can do it; believe in yourself

See yourself bigger than any circumstance

Excel your thoughts

Test yourself...stretch yourself; take the risk



Write down what motivates you and will help you to get your mind right.
