Mommy and Me Collage Book Cover for website.jpg

Mommy and Me: A Single Mother's Story is one poem that tells how I feel about my children and being a single mother at a young age.

I had a lot of baby dolls as a child. My mother bought me the newest dolls every year and my grandmother gave me some unique dolls that I cherished.

But when my first child was born, she became my most valuable baby doll.

To all the single mothers out there, I am so proud of you!  I know firsthand how difficult it can be and the sacrifices you make on a daily with many times no appreciation and definitely no recognition.  Stay positive, focused and prayerful.  The Most High will see you through any obstacles and setbacks.

Raising children is the hardest and most rewarding task you can ever do in life, so don't give up; you got this!  Ase'

Excerpt from Mommy and Me: A Single Mother's Story...

A little girl in her own little world.
A baby doll gets her complete attention.
For her birthday it's all she mentions.
Play diapers, bottles and such.
Her baby doll can never have too much.
Hours of play until one day her doting begins to wane.
Trades her previous baby doll for records, nail polish, lip gloss and a boy...I forget his name.
The baby doll that brought her hours of joy,
Is reserved to a shelf...now just a toy.
Little did she know the next stage of her existence,
Would be her as a Mommy with no assistance.
High school, a time to be young and carefree; finds this girl a mommy-to-be.
Her fears and apprehensions taken in stride;
With evidence that's hard to hide, she holds her head up with pride.
Quite a journey began by someone of so few years.
Her life plan in motion, prayer...her mind clears.
Reminiscing of the little girl with her baby doll in hand.
Unaware of the Creator's master plan.
Fake bottles and diapers have now become real.
She is not sure how this makes her feel.
Events of her childhood missed with great sorrow.
Memories not made, "Oh well, I will ask my friend for details tomorrow ".
Her real baby doll arrives; no packaging or box...
